Aloha Dear One.
If you are a woman in midlife or beyond, you are in the right place. You are reading the 4th Episode in Finding Your Way When Everything Is Changing — a Heart of Aloha Blog Series.

I'm Kumu Kaleo Wheeler, and this written 7 episode series Finding Your Way When Everything Changes is a companion to the Heart of Aloha podcast, Her Voice Rising: Ignite Your Inner Brilliance & Let It Shine, where these same teachings are spoken aloud. If you prefer listening to the full audio or watch the companion Youtube video, you can go to:
This series is for the woman who can feel she's standing in t
wo thresholds at once — your own personal one, stepping into this wise-woman season of your life, while the whole world's moving through its own massive transformation right alongside you. If that's where you are, Dear One, you are exactly in the right place.
In our last blog post, we explored the 2nd Key in the Heart of Aloha Path — Hoʻopono Pono Ke Ala, The Living Path of Your Innate Perfection. Rather than trying to "fix" a broken vessel, this key is about making the path already right, more right. It is the daily practice of giving yourself absolute permission to choose what you want in our life nad not what others are telling you.
And now, in Episode 4, we step through the third doorway: Kānāwai Moakaʻaka — The Smiling Law of Manifestation, one of the oldest original forms of the modern Law of Attraction. This is where your inner choices and self-permission become active, outer creations — allowing you to bring your inner truth out into the world, so you can live your true Purpose, Place, and Power as the Kūpuna, the Wise Woman, you already are.
But to understand how we actually bring our choices into physical, lived reality, let me ask you an honest question: Are you familiar with the modern "Law of Attraction"? And if so, how is it actually working for you?
Have you set a beautiful, clear intention for your life — maybe you sat down, wrote it in your journal, prayed on it, or visualized it — only for nothing to happen?
Or worse, does it feel like the exact opposite of what you wanted keeps arriving instead at your door?
If that has happened to you, I want you to know two things immediately.
First — almost every woman I sit with has felt this exact frustration.
And second, you have not failed. You are not "bad" at manifesting, and you are not broken.
What is actually happening is that you are caught in a deep misunderstanding of how the Laws of Attraction and Manifestation actually work.
Kānāwai Moakaʻaka literally translates to the Smiling Law of Manifestation. And why "smiling"?
The Universe Always Says "Yes"
We often think of the Universe as a judge, deciding whether we're "worthy" of getting what we want. But the Universe is actually a neutral, loving mirror. Whatever thoughts, beliefs, or emotional frequencies you're holding in your body, the Universe simply smiles and says: "Yes."
If your mind is constantly spinning in pilikia — worry, drama, and conflict — the Universe smiles and says, "Yes, let's create more worry."
If you secretly believe you're broken and don't deserve joy, the Universe smiles and says, "Yes, let's keep you searching."
The Smiling Law is always working. The secret isn't learning how to manifest — you're already doing it, every moment. The secret is learning how to change what you're asking it to say "yes" to.
Why Mental Affirmations Alone Fail
Most modern self-help teaches us to use mental affirmations to change our lives. But if your physical body is exhausted, your nervous system is on high alert, and your muscles are contracted in fear, a mental thought alone cannot override that somatic reality.
We have three inner elements that must work together:
Naʻau (the spirit center): Located behind the navel, the seat of your deep inner knowing and true authority.
Puʻuwai (the heart and emotions): Meant to serve the naʻau.
Manaʻo (the mind): Meant to support the naʻau.
When you live in stress, your body contracts. That contraction physically compresses your naʻau, cutting off your connection to your spirit greatness. Your mind, your manaʻo, then panics and tries to take over as the leader, running on old, protective conditioning. To manifest real change, we have to quiet the mind's panic and drop back into the body.
The Story of the Red Car
Here's what it looks like when someone does this well. This story was passed down by another kahuna I studied with before Auntie Mahealani, Serge Kahili King, about a woman who understood how to hold her intention without canceling it.
She wanted a very specific car — brand new, red, a sports car. She didn't have the money for it. But instead of letting her mind spin on all the reasons she couldn't afford it, she stayed in the clarity of her naʻau. She imagined the driver's seat, the wheel under her hands, the new-car smell and teh joy she felt in her body from it.
But the car didn't immediately appear and on a rainy day, standing at a bus stop, she watched that exact car she wanted drive right past her, someone else behind the wheel. And a second one than drove past her. The old sting of doubt rose up, but instead of getting lost in it, she told herself how positive that was - meant this were moving with her seeing the car and her car was on her way to her. And then a little later, a similar a similar car appeared — older, at a low price and the wrong color. She was tempted to settle for it, ready to go into debt for a car, but again she caught herself, saying no it wasn't the one she wanted.
Both times, she caught herself. She stopped. She breathed. She re-affirmed her vision instead of letting doubt cancel it.
A few days later, her cousin called out of nowhere: "I just won a brand new red sports car in a raffle. I already have two cars — do you want it?" And there she was, Sitting in it. Driving it. The exact car she'd been wanting and holding the experience of having as a felt-sense in her body all along — the right color, the right year — without spending a single cent.
This is what happens when we stop canceling our intention with doubt, let our naʻau lead, and let the Universe bring us what we're calling in — or something even better.
How to Use Kānāwai Moakaʻaka Today
To shift your frequency and work with the Smiling Law, try this simple three-step practice:
Drop into your body. Place one hand on your heart and one on your lower belly, over your naʻau. Take three slow, deep breaths. Let your shoulders drop. Feel your feet on the earth.
Feel the present reality. Bring to mind what you want to call in — Peace, Clarity, Joy. Don't think of it as a future goal. Imagine what it physically feels like in your body right now to already have it. Let that warmth fill your chest, and then your whole body.
Speak your intention (Voice Medicine). Say what you're choosing out loud, into the room: "In this moment, I choose Peace." Let the vibration of your own voice, on each breath, bring your mind and your emotions down into alignment with your naʻau, your spirit center. Keep breathing, and notice what shifts within you — what felt-sense rises, what emotion, what response.
By bringing your mind and emotions into alignment with your spirit, your physical body relaxes, and you give the Universe a clean, clear frequency to mirror back to you. And the Universe will gladly smile, and answer: "Yes."
A Closing Gift: The Naʻau Pono Card
As we come to the end of today's talk story, I want to leave you with a teaching directly from the Pono Cards created by my beloved teacher, Auntie Mahealani Kuamoʻo Henry. Today's card is Naʻau — Internal Gut, Depth Center:
"This is the aspect of self that most Hawaiians rely on for sorting the thoughts and emotions of the manaʻo and the puʻuwai. The naʻau is the guardian of the body and is trustworthy in maintaining pono. Pilikia from the manaʻo and puʻuwai causes stress on the body, creating toxic poisons that can bring unnecessary illness or death. Choose to be healthy. Choose pono now!"
These are Auntie's words.
Your Next Step Forward
I hope this talk story has been of help to you.
I also want to warmly invite you to step into our free community space, The Heart of Aloha ʻOhana. We're not meant to walk this threshold alone. The lone wolf is definitely gone. It's time to be in community. This is a beautiful, safe gathering place where we can stay connected, talk story, and walk this path together. You'll find the link to join in the description below, or by visiting theheartofaloha.com, where you can also explore all our other offerings.
And if you find yourself sitting with a piece of pilikia today, and longing for some personal support, I invite you to schedule a gentle, one-on-one Aloha Clarity Session. It's a private talk story where you and I sit together, and listen for your inner knowing to guide you toward the resolution or the next step you need. This door is always open, whenever you might need it.
Mahalo, dear one. For saying yes to yourself and being here today.
A Hui Hou (until next time).
Me Ke Aloha Mau Loa — With Love Always.
